Jobs Sailing Around the World
If you want adventure and you want to see the world but you have very little money, then one of the best things you can do is to get jobs crewing on boats. It is not easy work; it is not well paid; and seasickness can be a real problem; but it is the cheapest and one of the most exciting ways to see the world.
You do not need any sailing qualifications to get a job crewing on a boat. There are jobs on luxury yachts as well as luxury river boats for people without maritime qualifications. Once you get your first job you will have more experience and will find it easier to get another crewing job.
On yachts you can be either a deck hand or a steward if you have no sailing qualifications. A deck hand cleans the boat and does general maintenance work on the yacht. A steward or stewardess makes beds and serves the paying passengers or guests on the yacht. If you work on a super yacht owned by a very rich person it can be quite glamorous working as a steward.
If you have some cooking skills or professional chef experience you can work in the kitchen galley. This work can be well paid if you make it to head chef.
On river boats there are more no-skilled jobs available as the boats are bigger and more entertainment is provided. You can work in the cabaret if you can play an instrument, you can clean rooms, do laundry or bar tend.
The great thing about working on boats is that you get to go to some really exciting holiday destinations such as the Galapagos Islands, Easter Islands, the Caribbean, the Great Barrier Reef etc. Your transport is paid for and you have all your salary in your pocket to keep you going until you find another crewing job.
